Neutral density filter - Also known by its abbreviation ND, this filter simply reduces overall exposure without altering color. Occasionally, for instance, there may be too much light for a particular shot. One may want to use a slow shutter speed on a bright day for deliberately blurred movement, or need a wide aperture for shallow depth of field. Neutral density filters are available in a range of strengths.
